How to find the right barber

Most people at some point in their life will have that nightmare moment of sitting in the hairdresser’s chair and not liking the way they’ve cut their hair. It’s a universally-recognised conundrum! But is it possible to avoid this situation? What can you do to make sure you’re always 100% happy with your cut? We’ve put together a list of signs to look out for in a barber – so you know you’ll walk out of the salon with a smile on your face – every time.

  1. Recommendations

Sometimes there is nothing better than seeing a friend whose hair you like and asking where they go from a trim! Recommendations are great, that way you can see the proof of their work in real life.

  1. Questions

Find a barber who isn’t afraid to ask questions. Communication is key to understanding what a customer wants from a cut, so questions are really important. Beware the barber that just goes for it, without a clear understanding of what you’re asking for.  Likewise, they should be checking at the end of the cut that you’re happy with the result. Are they asking for feedback?

  1. Social media

It’s not essential, but these days a lot of barbers have social media profiles showcasing their work. It’s a great way to see the kinds of styles they’re best at and whether they align with what you’re looking for. One thing to be wary of is that, as we all know, social media is a highlights reel rather than a full picture. It’s still useful to get recommendations rather than just basing your judgement on social media.

As well as getting a haircut you’re happy with, it’s important that you feel comfortable at your barbers. As well as a good cut, it should be a good experience overall. Don’t be afraid to try out plenty of different barbers until you find the right one for you. And when you’ve found them, don’t let them go!
